Phu Quoc Island is developing rapidly, many European-style architectural works and resorts are being built. Rach Vem, a small fishing village, has become an attractive destination for tourists because of its pristine natural beauty that few places in Phu Quoc still retain.

The wild and attractive picture

Rach Vem fishing village is located in the north of Phu Quoc island, about 20 km from Duong Dong town. People here mainly live by catching seafood. Since Phu Quoc tourism has developed, Rach Vem people have developed tourism business combined with raft restaurant cuisine.

The most popular tourist attraction here is Ham Rong Cape, known as the “kingdom of starfish” with a large number of starfish with brilliant orange and black dots. To get to Ham Rong Cape, visitors must travel by canoe on the sea for about 10 minutes.

With clear blue water, long stretches of fine white sand, and gentle waves, Ham Rong beach fascinates visitors as soon as they arrive. During starfish season, visitors can freely take photos, watch, and swim with starfish under the clear, sparkling water.

This place is surrounded by green primeval forests, fresh air, suitable for swimming and picnics. Immersing in the cool water next to the beach with coconut trees shading, visitors forget the tiredness, enjoy the feeling of freedom in the middle of the ocean.

Ham Rong Cape is also a place to watch the beautiful sunset of Phu Quoc Island. Sitting on the sandy shore watching the red sun like a ball of fire gradually disappearing on the horizon, under the red sunset is an unforgettable experience for visitors when coming here.

In addition, tourists can also play some sea sports such as kayaking, SUP, jet skiing, diving to catch seafood...

Coming to Rach Vem fishing village, the floating seafood houses on the sea are always a tourist attraction because of their rustic and unique features. The floating houses are built 200-400 meters from the shore. To get here, visitors have to go through a wooden road hundreds of meters long.

Walking along the bridges leading to the sea, visitors can comfortably look far away and see the whole sea. This is also a favorite check-in photo spot for many people.

At the raft houses on Rach Vem beach, diners can easily find fresh seafood, typical of the pearl island such as herring, crab, sea urchin, sea snail, etc. The seafood will be hand-selected by visitors and processed into dishes upon request.

Time and travel

The ideal time for tourists to visit this place is during the dry season, from November to April of the following year. This is when the weather on the island is sunny, convenient for traveling and playing, and it is also the season when starfish flock to Rach Vem to live.

May to September is the rainy season on the island, waste from the Mekong River flows down, accumulating in the northern part of the island, destroying the beauty of this sea area. With a lot of rain and cloudy water, tourists will have difficulty finding starfish in Ham Rong. You should check the weather carefully and have a backup plan to avoid affecting your travel experience at Rach Vem fishing village.

From the center of Phu Quoc city, to travel to the fishing village, visitors can choose motorbike or car. The road to Rach Vem is quite bumpy with a red dirt road, causing many obstacles for visitors when traveling here, especially those with weak driving skills. Visitors should check the weather before deciding to visit Rach Vem because when it rains, the red dirt road becomes slippery, muddy and very dangerous.
