Bai Dai - Cam Ranh: A spectacular transformation after 3 years
(Baonghean.vn) - From a barren land, standing on the sidelines of the bustling development of Nha Trang city, what driving forces have pushed Bai Dai - Cam Ranh to quickly move on the path to becoming the country's leading high-end resort tourism center?
3 years - A different look
From Cam Ranh International Airport, following Nguyen Tat Thanh Street towards Nha Trang city, anyone can easily feel the hustle and bustle of a new tourist center taking shape and the dizzying growth rate in this area.
A series of resort projects worth thousands of billions of dong are being urgently built, with many projects completing the final stages to be put into operation in 2019.

While Nguyen Tat Thanh Street is paved flat and covered with lush green trees, Bai Dai is also being covered with green by large-scale resort projects. Up to now, there have been 7 projects put into operation such as Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort & Spa, Vinpearl Long Beach villas, The Anam, Duyen Ha luxury resort... and 10 projects are expected to be put into operation in 2019.
More than 3 years ago, at the end of 2015, Bai Dai - Cam Ranh had a completely different "appearance". There were only more than 30 projects licensed for investment, of which more than 10 projects were under construction. From the airport to Nha Trang city was a mess with bare sand dunes.
So what is the main driving force that has created the different look of Bai Dai?
Realizing the potential for tourism development, as well as in an effort to expand tourism space and tourism products, Khanh Hoa province's leaders have boldly built infrastructure at Bai Dai. In particular, the construction of runway No. 2 started in March 2015 and Cam Ranh international terminal in September 2016. Currently, runway No. 2 has completed more than 90% of the progress, and Cam Ranh international terminal alone has been put into operation in 2018.
According to the latest statistics, in 2018, Cam Ranh International Airport had 26,700 flights operated by 25 international airlines. The leader of Cam Ranh International Aviation Joint Stock Company said that when the large-capacity Terminal T2 comes into operation, there will be 5 new airlines: S7 Airline, Globus, Small Planet, Pegas, Ok Air. In the first 2 months of 2019, there will be 3 more major airlines: BangKok Airway, Eastar Jet, T'wa and soon AirAsia and Jin Air.

Bai Dai - Cam Ranh is strongly attracting large-scale projects. A typical example is the Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort & Spa project, which officially opened in 2015. |
The boldness and strategic vision of generations of leaders of Khanh Hoa province have contributed to the development of local tourism with a growth rate of over 15% per year for the past 3 years, especially international visitors always growing by nearly 40%. Bai Dai tourism also has impressive growth in the general context.
The transformation of Bai Dai is also reflected in the number of projects listed by the Department of Planning and Investment of Khanh Hoa province. Accordingly, Bai Dai currently has 45 projects granted investment certificates with a total registered capital of nearly 30,000 billion VND.
Double benefits, Bai Dai flourishes?
In addition to planning to be an international-class resort destination and receiving synchronous infrastructure investment as well as investment facilitation from Khanh Hoa provincial leaders, Bai Dai also benefits from the restructuring of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism.
In the past 3 years, Khanh Hoa tourism has grown strongly but mainly concentrated in Nha Trang City, causing this locality to become overloaded in terms of traffic and rooms (in 2018, there were 12,000 more rooms, not including condotels, compared to 2017) and there is almost no more land facing the sea to develop unique tourism products.
Accordingly, Khanh Hoa province has implemented a tourism restructuring project to relieve capacity in Nha Trang. The project focuses on 5 major issues, in which the structure of tourism development space has created great benefits for the areas near Nha Trang. The tourism space has expanded to Bai Dai, Ninh Hoa, Nam Van Phong and towards Bac Van Phong, creating leverage for tourism growth in these areas. And, Bai Dai - Cam Ranh is effectively seizing the "golden opportunity" that Nha Trang tourism restructuring brings.
Leading Vietnamese enterprises have invested in Bai Dai. These include Vingroup with Vinpearl Long Beach Villas, Eurowindow Holding with Mövenpick Cam Ranh Resort, Novaland with NovaBeach Cam Ranh Resort & Villas... and many other famous projects of other investors.
Also investing capital here, Crystal Bay Group - a business that owns a synchronous tourism ecosystem and a large flow of international visitors, with more than 30 member companies - is one of the names that attracts attention. Crystal Bay has boldly "revived" 2 slow-progressing projects of other investors, contributing to changing the accommodation, entertainment and recreation infrastructure for Bai Dai.

International tourists experience fun and entertainment at Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort & Spa - the first 5-star resort in Bai Dai. |
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Chi - Chairman and General Director of Crystal Bay Group, this Group has acquired and restarted the Tam Huong resort project. The project was officially completed and welcomed tourists under the name Cam Ranh Reviera Beach Resort & Spa in 2015. Most notably, this is the first 5-star resort operating in Bai Dai and always achieves a room occupancy rate of up to 90%.
After that, Crystal Bay Group and its partners implemented the second large-scale project in Bai Dai called SunBay Cam Ranh Resort & Spa, expected to be put into operation from the end of 2019. The project has an area of 14.7 hectares, with a 400m long coastline, divided into 2 construction phases, providing visitors with 206 villas, 272 hotel rooms and 1 water park along with other entertainment, recreation and shopping facilities.
In 2019, Crystal Bay will continue its strategy of reviving other investors' slow-moving projects in Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. The Non Nuoc Nam Song Lo tourist area projects of Ban Mai Company and Vinh Hoa Lake tourist area of Dong Duong Nha Trang Company will receive new capital. Crystal Bay will also invest in new projects in Van Don (Quang Ninh) and Ninh Thuan to complete the closed ecosystem for its unique "One journey - Many destinations" strategy.
With 7 projects already in operation, 10 projects about to be put into operation and nearly 30 projects to be deployed, with the joint efforts of investors, Bai Dai promises to become a large-scale and high-quality destination nationwide as expected.
