Sprain means the tearing of the tissues surrounding the joint due to excessive shock, often occurring after an indirect injury when running, jumping, or falling.

The ankle, knee, and wrist joints are the most susceptible to sprains. Patients often experience weakness in the wrist or ankle, pain at the attachment point of the ligament to the bone, or pain along the ligament. The joint may be swollen, hot, and hinder movement.

In severe cases, the ligaments of the joint are torn or the attachment points are detached, causing the joint to be loose and may have abnormal movements to the sides, often occurring in the knee joint. At this time, the patient needs to be taken to a medical facility for treatment.

In mild cases, the ligaments are only stretched, the injury only causes physiological disorders, the joint does not have abnormal movements, often occurring in the ankle joint. It is necessary to use an immobilizing splint or a fixed bandage and then use the following remedies:

External medicine: lime leaves, silver leaves, bone pain leaves, perilla leaves, purple castor oil leaves, mugwort leaves, white flowered náng leaves. Use 2-3 of the above leaves, a handful of each, wash, crush, mix with vinegar or wine, heat, apply to the injured area. When dry, replace with another piece. It is better to use the 3 ingredients together than to use only one ingredient.

Oral medication: use one of the following:

Lesson 1:2 turmeric roots, thinly sliced ​​and fried with wine, 12g of Chinese clematis, thinly sliced ​​and fried with wine, 16g of kapok tree bark, peeled, thinly sliced ​​and fried with wine, 16g of piper lolot, fried until golden brown. Put all in a pot, add 3 bowls of water, boil until 1 bowl remains, divide into 2 servings to drink during the day.

Lesson 2:50g of si root (if there are no roots, use 60g of si branches, cut into 3cm pieces, fry until golden brown), boil until concentrated, take 1 bowl, add a little white wine, give to the patient to drink during the day.

Dislocation: use Panax pseudoginseng, crush it with a moderate amount of flour, stir into a paste, apply to the dislocated joint. Change once a day, do this for 3 consecutive days.

During treatment, it is necessary to combine massage and eat the following medicinal porridge and soup dishes:

Massage: mainly massage the Jiexi, Qiuqi, Zhaohai and Taixi points on the painful ankle. The Jiexi point is located between the horizontal line in front of the ankle joint, between the two tendons of the toes. The Qiuqi point is in the natural depression in front of the outer malleolus. The Zhaohai point is located 1 inch below the inner malleolus. The Taixi point is located in the depression between the inner malleolus and the Achilles tendon, at the top of the inner malleolus.

Massage method: sit on the floor, bend the knee of the unaffected leg and place it under the thigh of the other leg. Prop up the affected leg, press the thumb of the hand on the same side on the acupoint and then release, do each acupoint 14 times continuously. Finally, hold and rotate the ankle joint clockwise 36 times, then counterclockwise 36 times. Rub both hands together to warm them up and then massage the affected ankle joint. Do this continuously for 3 minutes.

Note: when dislocated, do not soak your feet in warm water. Wait 24 hours before soaking in warm water and massaging to stimulate blood circulation.

Foods to help with sprains:

Lesson 1:Crab meat porridge: 2 crabs, 50g rice. First, prepare the crab meat and crab roe. Wash the rice and put it in the pot, add water to cook the porridge. When the porridge is cooked, add the crab meat, crab roe, ginger, vinegar, soy sauce and boil until done. Eat with meals. Benefits: nourish the blood and qi, heal bones and tendons, treat dislocated joints and swelling and pain.

Lesson 2:Pork spine soup, red sage: 500g pork spine, 250g soybeans, 50g purple red sage. Wash red sage, remove impurities, put in a pot, add enough water to boil red sage for 1 hour, use this water to cook pork bones, soybeans until soft, add a little cinnamon bark, spices, when the water boils, it's done. Divide into 2-3 times a day. Effect: nourish bones, generate marrow, promote blood circulation, reduce pain, treat sprained ankles, dislocation, swelling and pain.

Lesson 3:Black chicken cooked with Panax pseudoginseng: 1 black boned rooster 500g, Panax pseudoginseng 5g, Polygala root, salt to taste. Kill the chicken, remove the intestines, wash it; put Panax pseudoginseng in a pot, add salt and wine and simmer until soft. Serve with meals. Efficacy: replenishes weak tendons and bones, broken bones, dislocated ankles, swelling and pain./.
