Remedy for headaches

Headache is a common symptom of many diseases, a subjective feeling influenced by external factors (exogenous).

According to Oriental medicine, if the headache is sudden and lasts for several days, it is due to an external factor; if the pain is intermittent and dull, it is due to an internal injury, so it must be combined with systemic symptoms for an accurate diagnosis.

Headaches due to exogenous factors are divided into two types: those due to wind-cold and wind-heat. Here are some remedies.

Headache due to wind-cold: Patients often have headaches, fear of cold, stuffy or runny nose, no thirst, thin white tongue coating, floating and rapid pulse. Treatment is to dispel wind and cold. Use one of the following prescriptions:

Recipe 1: Perilla, mint, mint leaves, shallots, each 10g, raw ginger 6g. Boil 1 cup of water and give to drink, 2 times a day, after meals. Children divide into 3-4 doses. Can be crushed, steeped in a thermos to drink.

Recipe 2: Ligusticum wallichii tea: 4g white angelica, 8g ligusticum wallichii, 8g perilla, 16g mint, 4g ginger, 2g asarum, 3g saposhnikovia. Grind all ingredients into powder, take 24g per day, with tea, 1-2 hours after meals. Treats headaches, migraines caused by wind-cold.

If the patient has a cough with thin white phlegm, add 8g almonds, 8g Qianhu, 12g perilla leaves; if the nose is stuffy and runny, add 8g Xanthium fruit and 6g Cinnamon; if the top of the head hurts, add 8g Caoban; if the tongue has a sticky coating and a sore throat, add 12g tangerine peel and 12g processed Pinellia ternata; if the patient is afraid of cold and has a sore throat, add 12g fresh ginger and 12g perilla leaves; if the back and back of the neck are painful and uncomfortable, add 24g of Sand root.

Recipe 3: Modified Xiao Sai Hu Decoction: 12g Sai Hu, 8g Scutellaria baicalensis, 12g Pinellia ternata, 24g Codonopsis pilosula, 6g Licorice, 5 slices of ginger, 8 jujubes. Boil and drink. Treats headaches caused by wind-cold that has entered Shao Yang (half exterior, half interior), with symptoms: intermittent heat and cold, fullness and pain in the chest and ribs, loss of appetite, anxiety, nausea or palpitations, difficulty urinating.

Lesson 4: 10g each of Ligusticum wallichii, Asarum sieboldii, Asarum sieboldii, Mint essence, Tea leaves, Perilla fruticosa, Platycodon grandiflorum, and Saposhnikovia divaricata. Dry the ingredients, grind them into fine powder, and put them in a sealed jar. Use 0.1g each time, place it in the nostril on the side of the aching head, and inhale gently. It will take effect after 4-6 minutes.

Lesson 5: Camphor 3g, Angelica dahurica 3g. Grind the ingredients into a coarse powder, roll them into a cigarette with rice paper. Light the cigarette and inhale into the nose. Do this twice a day, one cigarette each time. Use for 3-5 consecutive days.

Headache due to exogenous wind-heat: Patients often have headaches, fear of wind, thirst, sore throat, thin yellow tongue coating, floating and rapid pulse. Treatment is to release wind and clear heat. Use one of the following prescriptions:

Recipe 1: 16g mulberry leaves, 12g chrysanthemum, 12g man kinh tu, 10g mint, 10g perilla. Boil and drink, divided into 2 times a day, after meals. Children divide into 3-4 times. Can be crushed, steeped in a thermos for drinking.

Recipe 2: Tang cuc am gia nghia: 10g each of mulberry leaves and aloe vera root; 6g each of chrysanthemum and forsythia; 8g each of platycodon, almond, scutellaria, and gardenia fruit; 4g each of mint and licorice. Boil and drink.

If there is heat injuring the body, the heart is upset and the mouth is thirsty, the tongue is red and has little coating, add 12g of rehmannia root, 8g of gypsum, 8g of trichosanthes root, 8g of fennel; if there is cough with no phlegm, yellow and sticky phlegm, thirsty mouth and sore throat, add 4g of fritillary, 6g of qua lau nhan, 8g of codonopsis pilosula; if there is constipation with boils in the nose and mouth, and obstruction of bowel qi, add 6g of rhubarb.

Recipe 3: High-quality ingredients: ginger root (fried with wine), fang feng, chuan khung, coptis chinensis (fried with wine), bupleurum each 4g; gypsum 8g, scutellaria root (half of the fried with wine) 12g; licorice root, anemarrhena each 6g. Boil and drink.

Lesson 4: 3g Ligusticum wallichii, 6g tea leaves. Wash all ingredients, put in a pot, boil for 5-10 minutes; filter the water, drink before meals.

Lesson 5: 3g of Nha Tao, 3g of Nga Bat Thuc Thao, 2g of Thanh Dai, 2g of Te Tan. Grind the ingredients into a fine powder. Use for 7 days each time, 3 times a day, each time use 0.2 - 0.4g, blow into the nose to cause sneezing.

Lesson 6: Crush fresh radish and squeeze out the juice, add some camphor; drop into the nose. 2-3 drops each time, 2-3 times a day. Use continuously for 5 days.

Lesson 7: Chrysanthemum, mint, mulberry leaves, green bean pods, equal doses, stuff into pillow to lie on. Use for 1 month.
