Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong district, Nghe An) has long been considered a "hot spot" for drug trafficking, storage and use. Because many families have people imprisoned for drug trafficking, even both husband and wife are serving sentences, leaving behind children living in poverty... (Baonghean) -Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong district, Nghe An) has long been considered a "hot spot" for drug trafficking, storage and use. Because many families have people imprisoned for drug trafficking, even both husband and wife are serving sentences, leaving behind children living in poverty... However, in Luong Minh there is still a village that can be considered a "bright spot" in eliminating this social evil, that is La village.

Unlike many villages in the remote district of Tuong Duong, La village appeared before our eyes with quite spacious and sturdy tiled houses. When meeting visitors from the lowlands, the people of La village warmly welcomed them with friendly smiles. All of this shows that the life of the majority of Thai people here is quite warm and peaceful. La village has nearly 140 households with about 600 people, the main source of income of the people is mainly from slash-and-burn farming and cattle breeding. In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State through hunger eradication and poverty reduction programs such as Program 134/CP, 135/CP, Decision 167/QD-TTg, Resolution 30/CP, the life of the people here has improved a lot, there are almost no more makeshift thatched houses. All children of school age are able to go to school, the situation of students dropping out of school has been significantly reduced.

Children of La village get to study and play.

It is worth mentioning that although La village is located about 5km from Xop Mat and Minh Phuong villages (known as the "capital" of drugs), it has not been caught up in the "white whirlwind". According to the statistics of the village's executive committee, the whole village currently has less than 10 drug addicts, who are under the supervision of their families and local authorities. The elders said that more than 10 years ago, when the "tornado" of drugs swept across Luong Minh, people in the villages neglected their farming to follow the "bosses" in trading "white substances", and then the addiction situation increased, and people were also afraid. Not long after, La village also had people participating in transporting and becoming addicted to drugs, and the fear increased even more. Faced with that situation, the elders and the village's executive committee, and mass organizations met to discuss ways to limit the spread of drugs. The meeting reached a consensus that all organizations (Youth, Women, Veterans...) organize their members to sign and implement a commitment to propagate and mobilize, not to let family members participate in transporting and using drugs. In addition, the organizations also organize groups to directly go to each family to mobilize. Periodically, after a month, the village organizes a meeting to review, evaluate and review the situation. Thanks to that, the people of La village have minimized the destruction of the "white tornado".

Talking to us, Village Chief Lo Van Thuong said: “Thanks to the active supervision of the executive committee and organizations, the security and order situation in the village is always stable, there is no theft. In particular, in recent years, La village has not had any new drug addicts or drug criminals.”
