International friends condemn China's violation of Vietnam's sovereignty
On July 7, in Hanoi, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Committee of the National Assembly Nguyen Kim Khoa had a cordial reception with Mr. Eto Akimori, Chairman of the Security Committee of the Japanese House of Representatives and members of the delegation who are visiting and working in our country. Attending the meeting was Mr. Hiroshi Fukuda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Committee informed about the economic and social situation in Vietnam and China's illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig and Vietnam's policy to resolve the issue. The Chairman of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Committee thanked and appreciated Japan for its early support for Vietnam and its strong opposition to China's placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig deep in Vietnam's continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Security Committee of the Japanese House of Representatives Eto Akimori and members of the delegation expressed their agreement and support for Vietnam's policy, and strongly opposed China's aggressive attitude and actions that violate Vietnam's sovereignty and international law. Japan is ready to support Vietnam in improving the capacity of law enforcement forces, protecting sovereignty and sovereign rights at sea and on islands.
At the meeting, the two sides emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries in accordance with international law; and to strengthen comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, the Governments, the National Assembly and the two Committees commensurate with the extensive strategic partnership.
*According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the capital Warsaw, the Vietnamese Embassy in Poland organized a scientific conference with the theme "On the sovereignty of the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos" with the participation of more than 50 scientists, scholars who are former parliamentarians, former high-ranking officers and representatives of several Polish and Vietnamese media agencies.. 13 papers and opinions of Polish scholars presented at the conference affirmed Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. From scientific research, the papers clearly stated China's wrongdoings in violating Vietnam's sovereignty, threatening maritime security in the East Sea, and at the same time protesting China's blatant violation of international law, increasing tensions in the East Sea. At the conference, responding to the movement towards the homeland's sea and islands, a Vietnamese collector displayed two sets of maps published by Germany in 1896 and 1929, including a map of China with the southernmost border pointing to Hainan Island, providing additional historical documents affirming that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa belong to Vietnam.
*At the 92nd meeting of the Permanent Council of the Francophone, the political body of the International Organization of the Francophone, in Paris (France), Secretary General of the Permanent Council of the Francophone A. Diup expressed concern about the current tensions in the East Sea;called on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and resolve disagreements by peaceful means, through dialogue and respect for international law. Ambassador Duong Van Quang, Personal Representative of the President to the Francophone Permanent Council, affirmed that China's actions have violated Vietnam's sovereignty and jurisdiction, and violated the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea. Representatives of several countries also expressed concern about the prolonged tensions in the East Sea, asking parties not to threaten to use force and to resolve disputes on the basis of international law. At the end of the meeting, the Francophone Permanent Council adopted a document expressing concern about the recent tensions between Vietnam and China in the East Sea, calling on parties concerned to exercise restraint and encourage the resolution of disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.
*The delegation of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam in Geneva led by Ambassador, Head of the Delegation Nguyen Trung Thanh attended the Festival of Ethnic Groups and the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Geneva State Labor Party (Switzerland) as guests of honor.. In response to the concerns of many international friends, Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh informed about the recent tension in the East Sea arising from China's illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou 981 drilling rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf; clarified the process of forming disputes over Vietnam's Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in the East Sea; and affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of using all peaceful measures, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, to resolve disputes. Members of the Labor Party and international friends highly appreciated Vietnam's sharing of the situation in the East Sea. Recently, the Vietnam Friendship Association of many countries including Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands... have jointly issued a statement strongly protesting China's actions infringing upon Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, seriously violating international law, and resolutely demanding that China immediately stop all activities that threaten Vietnam as well as peace and stability in the region.
*On July 6, hundreds of Vietnamese people, many of whom are members of associations in the Vietnamese community in Austria, gathered peacefully at Stephen's Cathedral Square to protest the Chinese government's violations of international law.since this country illegally placed the Haiyang-981 drilling rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. The delegation peacefully marched through many main streets of the capital Vienna, before ending in front of the Chinese Embassy in Vienna. Also during the peaceful march, the delegation collected signatures from participants on a petition, sent to the Chinese Embassy in Vienna, to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the ASEAN Committee in Vienna to protest China's increasingly arrogant actions, demanding that this country respect international law, and immediately withdraw the drilling rig from Vietnam's waters...
The peaceful rally against China in Austria attracted the attention and support of many local people, international tourists, and reporters in Vienna.
