Central Secretariat meets and wishes artists a Happy New Year

The Party and State expect writers to promote their civic responsibility and their responsibility as artists and soldiers.

On the morning of February 5, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, the Party Central Committee Secretariat held a meeting and extended New Year greetings to artists and writers nationwide on the occasion of the Year of the Snake. Opening the meeting, poet Huu Thinh, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, reported on the activities of the Committee and the associations in 2012, notably the good implementation of Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (term XI); continued implementation of Resolution 5 of the Central Committee (term VIII) on building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity; building the association as a political, social and professional organization that is increasingly clear; the current creative trend is the tradition of patriotism, humanism, benevolence and active participation; topics and themes are expanded; the literary and artistic life is diverse, rich, with many tones and colors reflecting the new reality of the country and strong integration with the world.

Regarding creation and research, the trend of returning to the nation is very strong, many works about the country's history, many works about building and defending the country, about revolution and resistance, about the image of Uncle Ho are of great scale, with solid artistic level; The 2,500-volume collection of folk literature and art is being completed. At the meeting, the artists expressed their deep gratitude for the Party and State's attention to literature and art and those working in this field; at the same time, they also expressed their heartfelt opinions, concerns and worries about the work, about the issues facing literature and art today such as the lack of good works, inadequate investment and treatment, the risk of "cultural invasion", training, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Le Hong Anh affirmed that the Party, State and people recognize and highly appreciate the great contributions of artists and cultural figures to the country's culture, literature and art and the nation's revolutionary cause.

The strong renovation is creating favorable conditions for the development of culture, literature and art, but the difficulties in economic life, social negativity, the negative side of international integration and market economy, along with the complicated developments of the international situation, and the sabotage of hostile forces are affecting and posing new challenges to literature, art and artists and cultural activists.

More than ever, the Party and the State want writers to “highly promote their civic responsibility and their responsibility as artists and soldiers in the current revolutionary period”. Each artist and cultural figure must truly be a good citizen, attached to the revolutionary cause, mingling with the people and the country, thereby accumulating life experiences, arousing and nurturing creative inspiration, and creating many works of ideological and artistic value.

Comrade Le Hong Anh also requested the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations and the literature and arts associations at the central and local levels to truly be a "warm home", a reliable support, representing the will and aspirations of artists, and a bridge between artists and the Party and the State; hoping that cultural figures and artists will have many opinions for the Party to promote the development of the country's culture in the coming years.
