(Baonghean.vn)-Today (November 29), the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district to organize a conference to evaluate the results of sending Nghe An workers to work in Korea in the past time and discuss measures to reduce the rate of workers whose contracts have expired or who reside illegally in Korea and do not return home. Attending the conference were leaders of the Department of Foreign Labor Management, the Overseas Labor Center, leaders of several provincial departments, branches, and sectors, and leaders of the People's Committees and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the districts.

Since 2005, Nghe An has sent more than 4,500 workers to work in Korea. However, the number of workers who have expired labor contracts but still stay to work and reside illegally is increasing. In 2011, Nghe An had 91 out of 144 workers whose contracts expired and did not return home, accounting for 63%; in 2012, 787 workers whose contracts expired had to return home, in which localities with high rates were: Nam Dan, Vinh City, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau... Quynh Luu alone currently has 41 workers whose contracts expired. If the number of workers whose contracts expired do not return home, stay and work illegally in Korea, then the 2,027 workers of Nghe An province with valid profiles online will no longer have the opportunity to go to Korea to work.

Faced with this situation, the conference proposed solutions: strengthening the implementation of extensive propaganda on mass media so that families with children working in Korea can encourage their children to return home on time as per their contracts; organizing notifications to families of workers about the time when workers must return home; announcing the list of workers whose labor contracts have expired, and at the same time informing about preferential policies of the Korean and Vietnamese Governments for workers whose labor contracts have expired and returning home on time; Families are requested to sign a commitment, seriously implement the commitment to mobilize and advise their children to return home on time after the expiration of their labor contracts, and workers residing illegally to voluntarily return home... with the aim of reducing the general rate of illegal workers in Korea, thereby allowing the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor to review, re-sign the memorandum of understanding, continue to accept new Vietnamese workers and organize Korean language tests for Vietnamese workers who wish to register to work in Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS).
