Selling niece, must go to jail
(Baonghean.vn) - Once a victim of being tricked into going to China to work as a maid and then sold as a wife in a foreign land, living in poverty, listening to the enticement, Lu Thi Quan sold her niece for 20,000 yuan.
On the morning of July 30, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of "human trafficking" against Lu Thi Quan (born in 1970, originally from Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district), currently living in Guangdong province, China.
The indictment of the Provincial Procuracy determined: In 2009, Lu Thi Quan divorced her ex-husband, raising two young children alone, life was very difficult. In August 2010, when Lu Thi Quynh (Quan's niece, calling Quan her aunt) visited home, she asked Quan if she wanted to go to China to work as a maid for Quynh and his wife, Quan agreed. After working for her niece and her husband for a while, Quan was sold by Quynh to a Chinese man for 30 million VND.
In September 2011, Quan received a phone call from Lu Thi H. (her niece living in Chau Hanh commune, Quy Chau) asking for help because H. was taken to China to work as a laborer by Vi Thi Binh, then sold to another man. Life was too miserable, H. wanted to escape and asked Quan for help. After giving her address so that H. could find her home herself, Quan took care of her niece for 13 days, then sold H. to a young Chinese man for 20,000 yuan (equivalent to 40 million VND). After living with her new Chinese husband for a while, Lu Thi H. escaped back to Vietnam and filed a complaint against Vi Thi Binh and Lu Thi Quan to the law enforcement agency.
In February 2012, Lu Thi Quan returned to her hometown, but when she arrived at Dien Hong commune, Dien Chau, she was arrested.
In the sale with the consent of the child, the defendant had poor legal awareness and showed remorse, so the Trial Panel sentenced Lu Thi Quan to 2 years in prison for the crime of "human trafficking".
