Best seller in Europe, Ford Fiesta still faces difficulties in Vietnam

Ford has just announced that the Fiesta is the best-selling car in the A segment in Europe - a result that is in complete contrast to the gloom in Vietnam.
In Europe, the A segment is a fierce “battle” between the Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Polo. But thanks to sales in the first 6 months of this year reaching 173,999 vehicles, up 3.6% compared to the same period last year, the Ford Fiesta has surpassed its rival. In June 2015 alone, Ford sold 33,646 Fiestas, up 22.3% compared to June 2014.
“Europeans love small cars and they love technology, they love high standards. So we are very confident about Fiesta. But besides that, trendy colors are also another strength of our products,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president of marketing, sales and service for Ford of Europe.
This superiority in equipment and engine also appears on the Fiesta version in Vietnam. The car is equipped with a "super engine" EcoBoost with a cylinder capacity of 1.0L, producing a maximum capacity of up to 125 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of up to 170 Nm at 1,400 rpm and lasting up to 4,500 rpm.
This parameter is equivalent to and even more powerful than the traditional 1.6L engine. Comes with a 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. Impressive equipment such as start/stop, automatic air conditioning, sports gearshift, SYNC entertainment system, two airbags, hill start assist, electronic balance, ...
However, the first 6 months of Ford Fiesta sales in Vietnam only reached a very modest number of 356 cars - equivalent to an average of only 60 cars per month!
Explaining this, a representative of Ford Vietnam once stated in the media that Vietnamese consumers still favor cheap cars or cars that retain their value well - the strength of Toyota's rival models. However, Ford Vietnam also emphasized its strategies in the coming time to boost the consumption of this small car model.
