(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, October 26, under the chairmanship of comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control held an urgent meeting to deploy response work to storm No. 8 which is moving towards Nghe An.
Currently, an international storm named Son Tinh is appearing in the East Sea. According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Agency, this is a strong storm, moving fast and with extremely complex developments. The strongest wind near the eye of the storm is level 9, level 10, gusting to level 11, level 12. In the next 24 hours, the storm will move in the direction between West and West - Northwest, traveling about 20 - 25km per hour. Storm No. 8 is likely to affect the North Central region, in which Nghe An province is forecast to be the center of the storm. Due to the influence of the storm, from the afternoon of October 27, the North Central region will have moderate and heavy rain (about 200 - 300 mm). By October 28, the storm may directly affect Nghe An.
To proactively cope with storm No. 8, on the afternoon of October 26, the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCLB&TKCN) held an urgent meeting to request agencies, units and localities to immediately implement measures to respond to the storm. Accordingly, local units need to deploy plans to ensure the safety of dykes and dams. Urgently call on ships offshore to take shelter in safe places. It is necessary to instruct people to reinforce their houses, have plans to evacuate and protect the safety of people and property. Check and replenish food, medicine, and water treatment chemicals in areas that may be isolated by storms and floods. Maintain rescue forces and vehicles to be ready to respond when situations arise. At the same time, mobilize people to promptly harvest rice and seasonal crops. For shrimp farming areas that have reached commercial size, they need to harvest urgently to avoid damage.
As of this morning, October 26, Nghe An currently has 1,217 vehicles with 3,588 workers operating at sea. All vehicles have been in contact and are on their way to find shelter from the storm. The whole province currently has about 15,000 hectares of unharvested rice, 24,000 hectares of winter corn, 10,000 hectares of vegetables and more than 20,000 hectares of brackish water aquaculture area.
Comrade Ho Duc Phoc requested that agencies, units and localities immediately take measures to respond to storm No. 8.
Comrade Ho Duc Phoc suggested that after the meeting, members of the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control directly inspect, urge and direct the implementation of response work to storm No. 8 in localities. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee noted the following points: It is necessary to proactively organize bracing of houses, ensure safety of power systems, canals, evacuate people from coastal areas, riverside areas, areas at risk of flash floods, and ensure absolute safety of people's lives and property. Closely monitor the situation, grasp the developments of storm No. 8, assign localities to be on duty 24/24 hours at key locations. For areas of crops that can be harvested, direct people to harvest immediately; strictly prohibit ships from going to sea; prepare enough medicine and food to avoid hunger and thirst due to floods... to minimize the damage caused by storm No. 8.
