Sister-in-law sentenced to prison for selling brother-in-law to China
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 16, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the human trafficking case against Luong Thi Hang (born in 1985), residing in Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong.
After marrying a Chinese man, Hang returned to Vietnam and married Vi Van Chin (living in Luc Da commune, Con Cuong). During her time in China, Hang met Lo Thi Hoai (born in 1983, living in Yen Thang commune, Tuong Duong). Hoai told Hang to return to Vietnam and if anyone wanted to go to China to get married, to let Hoai know. If she could bring the person here, Hoai would pay Hang 10 million VND/person.
When Vi Thi Muoi (Vi Van Chin's younger sister) asked Hang to go to China to find work, Hang contacted Hoai to take Muoi there. On February 13, 2016, Hang took a bus to take Muoi and Lo Thi Anh (born 2001, Chin's niece) to Mong Cai, Quang Ninh, then crossed the border to China. After handing over the two victims to Hoai, Hang was paid 20 million VND.

Hoai organized many Chinese men to come and meet Muoi to buy her, but she refused to marry a Chinese man. After that, Hoai took Muoi to work as a maid for a family in An Giang city (China). Unable to bear the hard, heavy work without being paid, Muoi borrowed money from Hoai and found a way to return to Vietnam.
Upon returning home, Vi Thi Muoi filed a complaint against Luong Thi Hang with the investigation agency. Luong Thi Hang surrendered to the Con Cuong District Police and confessed to her crime.
Considering the case in its entirety, the panel sentenced Luong Thi Hang to five years in prison for human trafficking and ordered her to compensate the victim 10 million VND. The court also ordered the confiscation and transfer to the State treasury of 20 million VND that the defendant Hang illegally profited from human trafficking.
During the investigation, Luong Thi Hang confessed that she and Lo Thi Hoai sold Anh to be the wife of a Chinese man. However, Anh is currently in China and there is no complaint against Luong Thi Hang, so there is not enough basis to prosecute Hang for the act of selling Anh. The investigation agency is continuing to verify and will handle the case when there is evidence.
As for Lo Thi Hoai, the verification process shows that Hoai is currently in China with her husband. When caught, she will be handled according to the law.
