Sentenced to 7 years in prison for colluding to sell women from the same hometown to China
(Baonghean.vn) - For profit, Nghe and Toan colluded to sell a woman from the same commune to China to get married.
On November 30, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial against Moong Thi Nghe, born in 1990, and Luong Thi Toan, born in 1983, residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of Human Trafficking.

According to the case file, Luong Thi Toan lived with a Chinese man as husband and wife. In April 2018, Toan returned to her hometown to visit her family. There, Toan met Moong Thi Nghe to discuss finding someone to sell her to China for marriage and promised to share the commission if the “deal” was successful.
A few days later, when Nghe was at home, Ms. XTD, born in 1989, who lives in the same commune, came to visit. Nghe asked Ms. D. if she would go to China to get married. If she did, she would pay the family 100 million VND.
Due to difficult circumstances, D. agreed. Then, Nghe took D. across the border to China through an illegal route and to Toan's house. After that, Toan's husband sold D. to a Chinese man to be his wife.
After selling D., Toan's husband gave Nghe 43,000 NDT (equivalent to 120 million VND) and gave Toan 2,000 NDT (equivalent to 6 million VND). Upon returning to Vietnam, Nghe gave D.'s family 100 million VND, and Nghe kept the rest.

At the end of 2019, D. fled to her hometown. On July 4, 2023, D. wrote a complaint against Nghe and Toan. On the same day, Moong Thi Nghe turned herself in to the police. Afterwards, Ky Son District Police summoned and arrested Luong Thi Toan.
After being arrested, Nghe and Toan compensated the victim 10 million VND. The victim requested to be tried in absentia but filed a petition for a reduced sentence for the two defendants.
Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Moong Thi Nghe and Luong Thi Toan each to 7 years in prison for human trafficking.
