This is the first of three workshops in three regions of MEC and the British Embassy in Vietnam to announce the results of initial research and surveys to receive comments from the press and relevant parties. At the same time, this is also an event to communicate and raise awareness of the rights and obligations of journalists and civil servants regarding suggestions, criticisms, complaints and denunciations of citizens through the press.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong assessed: In recent times, the press has paid great attention to Nghe An, promptly reflecting the local economic and social situation. Local leaders have also shown a high level of goodwill in cooperating with the press through organizing monthly press conferences. Every year, Nghe An province organizes a preliminary review of the implementation of Decision No. 99/QD-UBND dated August 30, 2007 of the People's Committee of Nghe An province on providing, publishing and processing information in the press. In 20013, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued 60 documents directing departments, branches and districts and cities to respond and clarify issues raised by the press.

At the workshop, delegates said that in the coming time, provinces and cities need to train press spokespersons on speaking regulations and provide information. At the same time, it is necessary to develop a process for receiving press feedback so that the classification, handling, urging, monitoring and responding to the press can be more effective.

Following the workshop in Nghe An, MEC and the British Embassy in Vietnam will hold a second Feedback Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City in October and a third Workshop in Hanoi. The final research results will be announced at the National Conference in Hanoi in December 2013.
