Discussion around the issue of choosing classes and schools
Editor's note: After Nghe An Newspaper published the article "Around choosing classes and choosing schools" by author Thao Nhi (on August 23-24, 2011), Nghe An Newspaper received many responses regarding this issue.
Mr. Bui Viet Ha(Ha Huy Tap ward):
The phenomenon of the elite class is actually a selective class that exists openly in many schools. The selective class is formed at the beginning of the school year according to a number of criteria set by the school, including criteria on learning ability. These classes are no different in name from normal classes.
I agree with the author of the article when mentioning the current situation in selective classes, in addition to students who meet the standards set by the school, there are also some students who are "flexibly" admitted due to relationships. The organization of selective classes needs to be transparent and there needs to be screening through each school year.
Regarding the high school sector, I think that since there is a system of specialized schools with the function of "nurturing and developing students' talents", the creation of selective classes or under any other name in the mass education system is completely unnecessary, and causes unfairness due to preferential treatment in the arrangement of teachers. Most of the teachers with professional and technical reputation are arranged to teach in selective classes. As for students in other classes, not only do they not get to study with good teachers, but they are also at a disadvantage, they do not get to "study with their friends". Eliminating selective classes is an urgent task to restore a fair educational environment for students and also to eliminate the "achievement" disease of some schools.
