(Baonghean) -Na Tong village, Chau Thon commune - (Que Phong) has nearly 30 households with 109 people, the whole village has 13 hectares of agricultural land, the irrigation system is quite convenient because of the Quang river running through. However, due to the limited awareness of the people here, backward customs have not been eliminated, so Na Tong village is still poor all year round.
Identifying the goal of hunger eradication and poverty reduction as the main task, the Party Committee and the government of Chau Thon commune have built a special topic on agricultural development. At the same time, they have assigned 30a cadres to set up a point in Na Tong village, building a model of crop conversion on land that cannot grow rice, or can only grow rice for one crop.
Mr. Lo Van Viet in Chau Thon commune takes care of his jicama garden.
The commune officials chose Mr. Lo Van Viet's family - Na Tong village as a model to guide the planting of various crops such as: mustard greens, eggplant, squash, pumpkin. Currently, the model has brought high efficiency. Mr. Viet said: "I have been living in this village since 2003, planting many types of plants, but the efficiency was not high. At the end of 2010, the commune sent me to a training course on planting crops such as beans, peanuts, eggplant, mustard greens, etc., instructing my family to move the barn out from under the stilt house, build a separate barn to collect manure to fertilize the plants. With the staff holding my hand and showing me the job, my family followed. Thanks to the fertilizer, the plants grew very well, with high productivity, and a good price, yielding about 50 million VND each year. Now, in the village, seeing that my family earns a lot of money from selling the vegetable garden, many people come to ask to learn and follow suit. They also receive support from the State for seeds to plant."
From the success of Mr. Lo Van Viet's model, Chau Thon commune invested in 3 more models: Growing pumpkins and green squash for sale in the garden, growing hybrid corn for animal feed (previously the village only grew a little waxy corn). Up to now, the whole village has had 5 households voluntarily registered to participate in crop conversion with a total area of up to 3.5 hectares. From a poor village always waiting for support from the State, after nearly 3 years of implementing the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress, from the models, many households in the village have expanded, corn, sesame, peanut fields are increasing, safe vegetable fields have appeared in many border villages. People no longer rely on the State's famine relief rice after each harvest. Up to now, Na Tong village has escaped from Program 135, the number of well-off households with high income is increasing.
