A British Special Air Service (SAS) sniper recently shot down a self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) militant commander using a sniper rifle and night vision goggles from a distance of more than 1,500 meters.SunMarch 18 news.

A military source said the SAS gunner's G Squadron received intelligence that an IS commander was moving to a "safe house" in a rebel-held village near the Syrian border.

With the chances of capturing the target almost non-existent, the G squad soldiers decided to continue monitoring and planning to kill him when he arrived in the village during the day, as it was too dangerous to open fire at night. However, when the IS commander arrived at night, they realized that they had to act immediately or abandon the mission.

The gunner sergeant of squad G requested permission to open fire and destroy the target and was approved by the commander. WhenAs the vehicle carrying the IS commander approached the house, the sergeant aimed at the tall, hooded militant getting out of the vehicle. He had about 15 seconds to aim and fire.

A bullet fired from a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle hit the rebel commander in the neck, killing him instantly.

"This is a one-in-a-million shot. Using a thermal imaging device to hit a rebel's head at night in just 15 seconds is almost impossible. He is definitely the best sniper at the moment," the source said./.
