U20 Korea and U20 Jordan are the next two teams to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2023 AFC U20 Championship, after the final matches in Group C took place yesterday (March 8). U20 Korea drew 0-0 with U20 Tajikistan to top the group with 7 points. U20 Jordan drew 0-0 with U20 Oman and ranked second with the same 4 points as U20 Tajikistan but with a better head-to-head record (won 2-0).
Previously, the 2023 U20 Asia had determined the 4 teams to continue in groups A and B including U20 Uzbekistan, U20 Iraq, U20 Australia, U20 Iran. Correspondingly, the 2 semi-final pairs are U20 Uzbekistan vs U20 Australia and U20 Iran vs U20 Iraq.
U20 Korea and U20 Jordan will have to wait for the results of Group D today (March 9) to determine their opponents in the semi-finals. According to the schedule, U20 China will meet U20 Kyrgyzstan and defending champion U20 Saudi Arabia will face U20 Japan at the same time at 7:00 p.m.
Currently, U20 Kyrgyzstan still has a chance to continue in theory but this scenario is very unlikely. The two tickets to continue in Group D will be the competition between U20 China, U20 Saudi Arabia and U20 Japan.
Notably, the second-placed team in Group D will contribute to the death bracket in the knockout round of the U20 Asia when falling into the bracket with U20 Korea, U20 Uzbekistan and U20 Australia. The first-placed team in Group D will fall into the "easier" bracket with U20 Jordan, U20 Iran and U20 Iraq.
