Bangladesh supports Japan's candidacy for non-permanent seat on the UNSC
According to Kyodo, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on September 6 that the country will give up its bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2016-2017 term and support Japan's candidacy for the position.
Hasina made the announcement after meeting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who arrived in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka earlier in the day on a three-day visit to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

During the talks, the two leaders also agreed to facilitate Japanese companies to do business in Bangladesh through strengthening special economic zones and improving the investment environment.
In addition, the two sides also agreed to strengthen relations in the fields of diplomacy and security as well as hold a meeting at the deputy foreign minister level early next year.
Also during the meeting, Ms. Hasina and Mr. Abe reaffirmed the importance of freedom of navigation and aviation as well as peaceful resolution of conflicts in accordance with international law./.
