Vietnamese Banh Chung and Banh Day in top 10 world festival dishes
The famous travel magazine National Geographic (USA) has just announced a list of 10 typical traditional festival dishes around the world.
In this list are Vietnamese banh chung and banh day.
National Geographic commented that Tet is the most important holiday for Vietnamese people, marking a new year with spring and new expectations.

This is an occasion for Vietnamese people to reunite with their families and gather around a feast that can never be without the traditional dish of banh chung, with meat and mung bean filling, surrounded by sticky rice, the American magazine commented.
All are wrapped in dong leaves, creating a square cake, symbolizing the earth, as well as a round cake made from finely pounded white sticky rice, symbolizing the sky, according to National Geographic.
National Geographic's list of 10 traditional foods also includes Mexico's "Bread of the Dead," a cake for the "Day of the Dead," Hákarl used during Iceland's winter festival, and mooncakes for China's Mid-Autumn Festival.
There are also Hamantaschen for the Jewish festival of Purim, King Cake for the American Mardi Gras festival, Besan Burfi for the Indian festival of lights Diwali, Kahk for the Egyptian festival of Eid al-Fitr, Haggis for the Scottish Burn festival and “Bread for the May Revolution” from Argentina./.
