The Vietnamese Embassy in Chile, in coordination with the Chile-Vietnam Cultural Institute, organized a friendly meeting with Chilean journalists on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945).

Attending the meeting were Mr. Marcelo Castillo Sibilla, President of the Chilean University Union, former President of the Journalists' Union Association; representatives of Punto Final newspaper, Radio Cooperativa and journalists of the Chilean Socialist Party.

During the meeting, Ms. Patricia Abarzua, President of the Chile-Vietnam Cultural Institute, provided information on the situation in Southeast Asia and the relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and Chile.

Ms. Patricia particularly emphasized the current sovereignty disputes in the East Sea as well as the impact of this issue on the Latin American region in general and Chile in particular.

For his part, after reviewing some achievements of Vietnamese diplomacy, Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang mentioned many issues related to disputes in the East Sea and answered questions from Chilean journalists on this topic.

The Ambassador affirmed the stance of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam to resolve disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of international law, maintain the status quo and not take actions that increase tensions in the region and soon build a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

Chilean journalists expressed concern about the East Sea issue and supported Vietnam's stance, while also worrying that in the event of a conflict, it would negatively impact Chile's trade relations with Southeast Asia and international freight routes through this sea area./.
