US press believes Washington should achieve peace in Ukraine, before Russia wins

Ria Novosti quoted an analysis by the National Interest (USA) saying that analysts believe it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that Russia is not only fighting in the South, but also launching an attack in the North, while the Russian society and economy remain stable, and President Vladimir Putin does not give up achieving all the goals of the special military campaign.

“If the Russian military can penetrate deep into Ukraine and take control of the areas that Moscow has identified as its main targets, the conflict will end in a huge victory for Russia,” said Wesley Satterwhite, an adviser at the US State Department, and Alex Burilkov, an analyst at the Center for the Study of Democracy at Lüneburg Leifan University in Germany. “In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have received the best weapons aid from NATO, and Russia will be able to claim that it stood alone against the West and won.”

Experts note that, from the perspective of US interests, a “Korean scenario” with the determination of borders along the front line, and Ukraine’s recognition of four regions annexed by Russia in exchange for Western security guarantees, could be a good option for resolving the conflict.

“This is certainly not the worst outcome from the US point of view. Washington will probably gradually ease tensions with Moscow and resume negotiations on the trajectory of the future European security architecture. What is important is that the US will finally be able to return to its focus on the Pacific region,” the authors of the article believe.
