US press writes about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit
On July 3, major US newspapers published information about the upcoming visit to the US by General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

Bloomberg news agency quoted General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's written response: "I hope this is an opportunity for the two sides to have an open and frank dialogue on remaining differences. This will help improve bilateral understanding, narrow differences and gradually strengthen trust, making the long-term relationship between the two countries more substantial and effective."
The general secretary said Vietnam views relations with the US as “one of the most important partners in our foreign policy.”
Regarding the East Sea issue, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said Vietnam welcomes the US statement supporting a peaceful approach to resolving disputes in the East Sea.
“We all recognize the strategic position of the East Sea. I hope the US will continue to have a voice and take appropriate actions to contribute to the peaceful resolution of disputes in the East Sea, in accordance with international law.”
The US Wall Street Journal quoted General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's comments in response to the newspaper, saying that he hopes the US will continue its policy of pivoting to Asia, describing the US as a necessary force for regional stability.
He also welcomed recent US actions to promote the peaceful resolution of territorial disputes in the East Sea.
Meanwhile, an official announcement posted on the White House website on July 3 said that US President Barack Obama will welcome and hold talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on July 7 at the White House.
On Bloomberg, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong confirmed that the three main topics he will discuss during his trip are the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, security cooperation, and climate change.
