French press calls Mr. Putin 'Tsar'
Some French media, referring to the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, have called the Russian President “Tsar”.
Such headlines, in particular, appeared in the reports of the BFM channel and the newspaper Le Temps. However, the majority of the French media took a more reserved approach when assessing the upcoming visit of the Russian dignitary and limited themselves to neutral headlines.

Apparently, the journalists were referring to the historical coincidence. The meeting of the two leaders will take place at the residence of the French kings, the Palace of Versailles, 300 years after the visit of Tsar Peter I. In history, that trip actually marked the beginning of a lasting relationship between the two countries.
Previously, a French newspaper also compared the Russian President to a Tsar - that was Le Figaro. Reporting on the visit of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Saint-Peterburg, this newspaper called the politicians in the meeting "Russian Tsar and Turkish Sultan".
