Currently, the rate of people with diabetes nationwide accounts for 5.42%, an increase of about 201% compared to 2002. This is an alarming rate of increase in the rate of diabetes in Vietnam. The rate of people with diabetes in the community that are not detected is also high at 63.6%. In order to detect early and intervene early to reduce the progression of diabetes, in the past year, with the efforts of the system of units implementing the Project from the Central to the local level, the activities of the national diabetes prevention project and the prevention of iodine deficiency disorders have achieved certain results: Maintaining and developing a solid diabetes prevention network nationwide; Improving the skills of diagnosing and detecting diabetes early, contributing to minimizing complications for patients; Through screening, in 2013, nearly 19,800 people with diabetes and more than 36,100 people with pre-diabetes were detected, accounting for 17.3%.... At the conference, the Ministry of Health announced the results of the investigation and the epidemiological map of diabetes in Vietnam as well as new directions in diabetes screening and prevention of iodine deficiency disorders in the coming time.

Conference overview

In Nghe An, in recent years, the number of people with diabetes has increased quite high, accounting for 5.36%, and is forecasted to increase by over 6% in 2014, equivalent to 200,000 people with the disease. Faced with this situation, the Nghe An health sector has synchronously implemented project activities. Up to now, nearly 40% of patients with diabetes in the community have been managed and 15,000 people with prediabetes have been regularly consulted, the rate of goiter is only under 2%, the coverage of iodized salt is over 90% and the median urinary iodine is 10.3%....
