The newspaper said that Mrs. Merkel held a strategy meeting with Mr. Peter Tauber, Secretary General of the CDU Party and Mr. Klaus Schueler, Head of the CDU Federal Executive Committee to discuss the assignment of responsibility for the parliamentary election campaign that will take place within the next year and a half.
As expected, the CDU party's Konrad-Adenauer-Haus building in Berlin will be chosen as the center of operations for the 2017 election campaign.
A few weeks earlier, Horst Seehofer, Chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU), had also discussed with Merkel strategic issues for the 2017 election race. According to Seehofer, the CDU/CSU alliance should aim for an absolute majority. However, Merkel expressed skepticism about this ambitious goal.
It is expected that in early 2016, Mrs. Merkel will officially announce her decision to run for a fourth term as Chancellor./.
