According to Kyodo, South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported on September 30 that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un underwent surgery in Pyongyang in mid-September to treat fractures in both ankles and is still hospitalized.

The newspaper quoted a source who recently visited North Korea as saying: "I heard that Kim Jong-Un injured his right ankle in June after continuing to conduct many field inspections and ended up with fractures in both ankles due to not paying attention to treating the injuries."

The source also said that since mid-September, Mr. Kim Jong-Un underwent surgery at Bonghwa, a hospital specializing in serving high-ranking members of the Korean Workers' Party, and is now gradually recovering.

Bodyguards were deployed around the leader's hospital room and security was also tightened there.

"More and more high-ranking officials are visiting (Kim Jong-Un's) hospital room," the source revealed.

The North Korean leader has not appeared in public for more than 20 days, fueling speculation about his health./.
