Mother's heart is boundless

(Baonghean) - In the poor countryside of My Son commune - Do Luong, the fact that Ms. Tran Thi Van's family has two children passing the university entrance exam is a very proud thing.

How could she not be proud because her family was full of difficulties: her mother was nearly 100 years old and often sick, her husband was seriously ill, and her two children were still in school age. The burden of the family weighed heavily on her shoulders. Not willing to let her children drop out of school, she worked hard. From dawn, when it was still dark, she would go to the fields, at noon she would scoop up duckweed to feed the pigs, in the afternoon she would cut grass to feed the buffaloes, during the off-season she would do whatever she was hired to do and she would only rest when the rooster crowed at the beginning of the night. Feeling sorry for her mother, her two sons, Nguyen Khac Thai and Nguyen Khac Bac, had many times thought of dropping out of school to help her.

Knowing her son's thoughts, she tried her best to dissuade him: "Our parents were poor and lacked education. No matter how poor we are, I still have to take care of you all so that you can study properly. My dream is entrusted to you all..." When her two sons received their admission notices (son Nguyen Khac Thai was valedictorian of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Nguyen Khac Bac was admitted to Hanoi University of Construction in 2010), the mother was filled with worries. Where would she get the large sum of money for her children to enroll? And the monthly expenses for sending her two children to study in the capital? But for the sake of her children's future, she accepted everything. "Before, the two children studied near home and helped their mother with many things. Now they study far away, which costs more and leaves them without a support system. They struggle to earn money to raise their children, and also take care of their elderly mother and sick husband. The hardships and difficulties sometimes seem insurmountable... But thinking about the children and their future, I feel like I have more strength..." Not letting their mother down, the two brothers Thai and Bac are both diligent, good students, and after school hours also work extra to earn money to cover daily living expenses.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loi and her son Le Van Dong

Born in 1947, at the age of 26, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi (Yen Phong hamlet, Hung Hoa commune, Vinh city) got married. Three children were born one after another, but unfortunately, the second child, Le Van Dong, fell ill, his legs were paralyzed, and he could not walk. A few years later, her husband became seriously ill and passed away. Misfortune struck, and the fragile woman had to struggle to overcome everything.

Overcoming the many difficulties of life, she persevered to carry her disabled son to school for 9 years. Studying was already difficult for a poor child, and her son was disabled. However, a mother's love for her son overcame all material difficulties and mental complexes. Mrs. Loi wiped away her tears and went to Hung Hoa Primary School to enroll her son in the first grade.

From then on, Mrs. Loi took on the task of carrying her child to school every day. On the dusty village road on sunny days or slippery as oil on rainy days, the image of a sick mother carrying her child on her back regularly to school has become familiar to the people here. Although it was hard and miserable, she never complained. The distance from home to school seemed to be shortened by funny stories and words of encouragement for her child to overcome his fate. The mother's love and tolerance became the motivation for her disabled child to rise up with will and determination.

During the 9 years of primary and secondary school, Dong was always a good student. After graduating from junior high school, Dong was admitted to Le Viet Thuat High School, which made her both happy and worried. She was happy because her son was growing up, but the problem was that the family was still poor, so where would she get the money to buy a bike to take him to school? Pitying Mrs. Loi's poor family, neighbors and relatives near and far pooled money and rice to help her buy an old bike to take Dong to school. Feeling sorry for her mother's hard work, on rainy and windy days, on days when school ended late, watching her pedal the slippery road to pick him up, Dong gritted his teeth and learned to walk, and when the graduation exam was near, he was able to take his first steps in the cold. "When I saw him put down his crutches and walk on his own, my mother's tears fell down her dark cheeks. Joy and happiness burst out, mother and son could only hug each other and cry...".

Dong recalls. In 2001, Dong passed the entrance exam to Vinh Technical College (now Vinh Technical University). After graduating, realizing that the knowledge he had accumulated was too little compared to the needs of society, Dong applied to Vinh University. In 2009, Dong graduated with honors in IT engineering and was recruited to work at Nghe An Rubber Joint Stock Company. "During that time, I always had my mother by my side. She was a solid support for me to overcome my unhappy childhood. Without my mother, I don't know what my life would be like... Her immense love and sacrifice motivated me to overcome myself," Dong confided.

A mother's immense love for her children, her sacrifice and patience have created miracles in everyday life. They work hard day and night, accept disadvantages, endure hardships and difficulties so that their children can grow up because their joy and reason for living are all placed in their children...
