(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing Decision 1310/QD-UBND dated April 20, 2012 of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee on assigning agencies and units to help poor communes in the Western region of Nghe An, Nghe An Newspaper was assigned to support Xieng My commune, Tuong Duong district. With affection, responsibility and practical and effective methods, Nghe An Newspaper has organized many meaningful activities to help poor Xieng My commune.
On January 19, 2014, Nghe An Newspaper organized a Tet gift giving ceremony for Xieng My Commune and coordinated with the People's Committee of Xieng My Commune to hand over two breeding cows to poor households after separating the herd. At the end of 2011, Nghe An Newspaper supported 4 breeding cows for poor households, including Mr. Lo Van Pa's household in Phay village. After receiving the cows, Mr. Lo Van Pa raised them well, the cow gave birth to a calf 9 months ago, and now the mother cow has been transferred to Mr. Vi Van Son's family, also a poor household in Phay village, to raise. By April 2014, the mother cow will continue to give birth to a second calf, thereby contributing to gradually supporting new households.

Mr. Lo Van Pa (wearing a hat), Phay village, Xieng My commune, is praised by everyone for his good farming skills. After two years of raising cows, the cow gave birth to a calf 9 months ago and is preparing to give birth for the second time. |
The model of giving cows to poor households has been implemented by Nghe An Newspaper since 2011. With the first 4 breeding cows and a barn cost of 44 million VND, given to 4 poor households, thanks to good care, the number of cows has increased to 6 and will continue to increase by 2 in 2014.
Although the investment amount is not large, the model shows a good way of doing things, suitable and practical for the lives of poor people in Western Nghe An. The cows transferred to the people to raise are native cows suitable for the local environment and climate. In addition, the fact that the cows are both grazed and have barns has created conditions for rapid growth. People have learned to grow grass for livestock and to warm the cows on cold winter days, so the cows grow well, thereby contributing to changing the farming habits of the people.
In 2014, Nghe An Newspaper will continue to support Xieng My commune with 3 more native cows to support poor households.
