Overall assessment of the results of archaeological research and excavations of the National Museum of History in 2012-2013 shows that in 2012-2013, the Museum conducted a number of relatively large-scale excavations, which were highly appreciated by researchers. The results contributed to solving many current historical and cultural issues that Vietnamese archaeology is facing.
In the coming time, in addition to studying cultures and periods in the history of the nation, issues of Champa and Oc Eo culture will be priorities of the Museum, in order to evaluate and understand more fully the position and role of these two cultures in the formation of the first states in Vietnam in basic research as well as display. At the same time, further promote research and promote the potential of Vietnam's maritime cultural heritage.
The National Museum of History is currently preserving and conserving about 200,000 artifacts and documents of Vietnamese cultural history, of which the period of Vietnamese history from prehistoric times to 1945 has nearly 110,000 documents, artifacts, relics, antiques and 11 national treasures. Many collections are among the rarest compared to museums of the same type in the country and the region, such as: collections of artifacts belonging to archaeological cultures from the early Paleolithic era to the early bronze and iron ages (Hoa Binh - Bac Son); Dong Son culture; Ancient Vietnamese enameled pottery; Bronzeware of the Le - Nguyen period; Cham stone sculptures... The period of Vietnamese history from the mid-19th century to the present day has about more than 80,000 precious documents and artifacts on the history of the Vietnamese revolution, the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh and the leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam through the periods.
The National Museum of History is one of the three leading archaeological research institutions in the country. In recent times, the Museum has cooperated with many localities nationwide and internationally, conducting research and excavations in regions of the country.
