Within the framework of the Vietnam Year in France 2014, the Quai Branly Museum located on the banks of the Seine River, in the heart of the French capital Paris, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Women's Museum, organized an exhibition on the image of Vietnamese women through propaganda posters during the period from 1954 to 1980.

Through the display of 40 propaganda paintings for more than three months (from June 24 to September 28) at one of the most prestigious museums in Paris on world cultures, the exhibition depicts the great role of Vietnamese women in all areas of social life in the second half of the 20th century.

They were the "heroic, indomitable" women during the resistance war and also the "loyal, responsible" women in the rear, taking care of farming work, participating in the development of the country, raising children with all their love and kindness.

According to Ms. Christine Hemmet, a tour guide at the museum, the propaganda paintings, mainly drawn by female artists, highlight the important contributions of women to the achievements of the Vietnamese revolution.

These paintings also show the glorification of women in the two resistance wars against France and the US, as well as in the later period of nation building and renovation.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Lucien Fagni, a tourist from Montpellier, Southern France, said the propaganda paintings were very beautiful, reminding us of the period when Vietnam devoted all its resources to the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, in which women made significant contributions. Women were not only a solid rear for the frontline, but they were also revolutionary soldiers on the battlefield, so they deserved to be honored as heroes twice.

The exhibition really brought surprises to French and international visitors when visiting the museum. The image of a woman holding a gun next to the wreckage of a B52 aircraft - the prestige of the US Air Force, or actively participating in production and raising children is an explanation to international friends about the origin of the culture and spirit of the Vietnamese people, which was sown and crystallized from the heroic qualities and boundless love of Vietnamese women for their family and country.
