Biodiversity conservation in Pu Hoat

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 27, in Que Phong district, the Vietnam Forest and Delta Project coordinated with the Nghe An Forest and Delta Project Management Board to organize a workshop on biodiversity conservation and a community survey at Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, Que Phong district.

Attending the workshop were Mr. Chris Dickinson - Head of Sustainable Landscapes, Vietnam Forest and Delta Project. Also attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Protection Department, Nghe An Forestry, Vinh University, leaders of the Management Board of Pu Mat National Park, Pu Huong Nature Reserve, Xuan Lien Nature Reserve, Thanh Hoa province and representatives of the district leaders and communes of Nam Giai, Tri Le, Hanh Dich, Thong Thu, Dong Van and Tien Phong, Que Phong district.

Overview of the workshop

Pu Hoat Nature Reserve manages nearly 86 thousand hectares of forest and forestry land, of which the area of ​​special-use forest is 34,589 hectares, the area of ​​protective forest is over 51 thousand hectares distributed in 9 communes of Que Phong district. It is identified as one of the three main areas of the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve.

According to the survey report on the diversity of flora and fauna in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, the flora in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve is distributed in 5 branches, with 140 families, 397 genera and 676 recorded species such as: Po Mu, Bach Xanh, Kim Giao, Sa Mu Dau, limestone cycads, humpback... Besides, the fauna is also very diverse including: class Mamalia mammals, class aves birds, class reptilia reptiles, class ramphibia frogs...

The workshop focused on evaluating the activities that have been carried out and proposing solutions in biodiversity conservation in Pu Hoat with the aim of providing information collected during field surveys on rare flora and fauna species to contribute to effective management. In addition, establishing measures to intervene in threats leading to reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, creating sustainable livelihoods, improving zoning and system management.
