Overview of the workshop |
Nghe An is considered a province with high biodiversity with many rare species of animals and plants such as: duck, Tuong Duong mango, Sa mu dau, seven leaves one flower, orchid, H'Mong chicken, H'Mong buffalo, sticky rice, cool fish, yellow fish... However, due to many different reasons, biodiversity resources have been seriously degraded. Many species are facing the risk of extinction in the near future. Given the above situation, the work of restoring and protecting ecosystems, species diversity and genetic diversity to preserve biodiversity is extremely necessary and urgent.

Mr. Tran Quoc Thanh, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, presented the potential, conservation and exploitation of genetic resources. |
In recent years, Nghe An has coordinated with institutes, branches, centers and universities to conduct surveys and conserve rare animals and plants. On November 22, 2013, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 5529/QD-UBND approving the framework project to conserve, preserve and exploit sustainably. From now until 2020, 5 major tasks to conserve genetic resources at the provincial level have been identified. The total estimated budget is 12.5 billion VND. At the same time, 8 tasks to conserve genetic resources at the state level have been proposed from now until 2020.
At the workshop, delegates presented research and assessments on rare genetic resources in the province and activities in the conservation and development of these genetic resources. However, due to limited funding, capacity of scientific staff, facilities and equipment, this work still faces many difficulties. Delegates discussed and proposed solutions to effectively conserve and exploit genetic resources in the province, such as technical solutions, propaganda to raise awareness among local people about the role of resources in socio-economic development and solutions, policies and mechanisms to encourage, enhance cooperation opportunities and prioritize the development of some products that can become strong brands of the province, thereby improving the livelihoods of the people./.
