Protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation
(Baonghean.vn)- On September 30, the Ministry of National Defense held an online conference to implement Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 9, 2015 of the Prime Minister "On organizing a movement to fully participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation".
Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense chaired the conference. Attending the conference were representatives of central departments, ministries and branches. At the Military Region 4 bridge, Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of the Military Region chaired the conference.
In recent years, in the process of managing and protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security, many models of mass self-management of border lines and border markers, maintaining political security and social order and safety in border areas have emerged with many rich and diverse forms, such as: "Self-management groups of border lines and border markers"; "Safe boat and wharf groups"; "Self-management groups of security and order in villages and hamlets"; "Solidarity groups to ensure security and order"; "Twinning residential clusters on both sides of the border"...

Currently, the country has 3,519 border and border marker self-management teams, 1,925 boat safety teams, and 382 safe harbors. People have signed agreements to self-manage 3,262 km of border and 2,345 border markers, which have brought about practical results.
Through summarizing experiences, it has affirmed the correctness, creativity, effectiveness, and multi-faceted significance of organizing collectives, households, and individuals to participate in managing and protecting territorial sovereignty, national border security, and participating in resolving complicated incidents occurring on the border.
Concluding the Conference, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty requested relevant ministries, branches, Party committees and authorities of localities with borders and coastlines to thoroughly grasp Directive 01/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister to all sectors, all levels and all people, the entire army, especially people in border areas and border guards, and fully implement the contents of the Ministry of National Defense's instructions.
Border guards do a good job of advising and are the core force in carrying out their tasks on the basis of close coordination with other forces and authorities.
Party committees, authorities, and Fatherland Fronts of localities with borders and coastlines shall lead and direct localities to well organize mass movements to protect borders; mobilize the combined strength of the masses, coordinate and integrate with other local movements to create unity in implementation; do a good job of emulation and commendation, promptly encourage collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the process of implementing the movement; regularly learn from experience, replicate typical examples with good practices to implement the Directive more deeply and effectively.
