A foreigner was caught using 17 fake ATM cards to steal money.
This subject used a fake ATM card and withdrew 81 million VND from 10 ATM boxes.
Ho Chi Minh City District 1 Police said they are currently detaining a foreigner for investigation and handling of the act of “property theft”. This subject used 37 fake ATM cards to withdraw money from dozens of ATMs in the city.
According to the authorities, at 10:00 a.m. on November 15, the patrol team of Cau Ong Lanh Ward Police coordinated with the HSBC Bank force to raid the ATM box at 63-65-67 Tran Hung Dao Street to arrest Ivan Slabob Rusev, born in 1977, Bulgarian nationality, while he was using 17 fake ATM cards to withdraw money there. The authorities seized evidence including 30 million VND, 1 motorbike with license plate 54V8-0201, 1 mobile phone, and 17 fake red foreign bank cards. Checking the trunk of this motorbike, the authorities seized 51 million VND and 20 other fake bank cards.
At the police headquarters, Ivan Slabob Rusev confessed that he had been in Vietnam for 15 days. In the past few days, he had used fake ATM cards and withdrawn 81 million VND from 10 ATM boxes in District 1. These fake ATM cards were transferred to Vietnam by 2 people from Bulgaria for Ivan Slabob Rusev to withdraw money.
