Mandatory participation in social insurance for contract workers with contracts of less than 3 months.

This is a new provision stipulated in the 2014 Social Insurance Law, which was recently passed by the National Assembly at its 8th session of the 13th term.

Accordingly, from January 1, 2018, employees working under fixed-term labor contracts of 1 month to less than 3 months must participate in compulsory social insurance.

Also from January 1, 2018, foreign workers entering Vietnam to work who possess a work permit, professional certificate, or professional license as prescribed by law are eligible to participate in compulsory social insurance.

In addition, the Law also adds several new categories of people who must participate in compulsory social insurance from January 1, 2016.

This law replaces the Social Insurance Law of 2006.
