National Press Award Final Judging Begins

On June 2, in Hanoi, the Organizing Committee of the 6th National Press Award 2011 opened the final round of the award.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Comrade Thuan Huu - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Chairman of the National Press Awards Council acknowledged the positive work results of the Preliminary Council in selecting press works of all types with better quality, creating conditions for the Final Council when selecting and evaluating the most typical works to award prizes. With experience through five seasons, implementing the direction of the Award Council, associations at all levels and press agencies nationwide have responded; the Council's support committees have strived to complete the work on schedule and according to requirements.

According to the Vietnam Journalists Association, the 6th National Press Award continued to receive enthusiastic responses from all levels of the Association nationwide, with 117 press units, including 55 provincial and municipal Journalists Associations (the highest number ever); 62 Central Associations, Branches and Press Agencies sent entries.

The works participating in the award reflected the country's major political events in 2011: the 11th National Party Congress, the election of the 13th National Assembly, "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh"... Many works participating in the award were problem-solving, had high social influence and demonstrated professionalism and appeal.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Preliminary Council unanimously selected 156 excellent press works in 8 award categories for the final round, selected from 1,268 works participating in the 6th National Press Award 2011.

The final jury worked for two days, June 2 and 3, to review, evaluate and vote to decide the winning works.

According to the Organizing Committee, the entries meet the criteria of closely following the political tasks of the country, industry and locality; promptly, vividly and diversely reflecting the socio-economic situation and national security and defense.

In addition, the works have introduced new factors, good people, good deeds, and advanced models in economic development activities, in building and defending the Fatherland and all aspects of life; in hunger eradication and poverty reduction in remote areas and ethnic minority areas.

The press nationwide has actively provided information and propaganda to help prevent economic recession; overcome the consequences of natural disasters and floods; fight corruption and negativity; fight hostile forces and wrongful activities against the State and the regime; issues of economic development associated with environmental protection; issues of agriculture, farmers and rural areas./.
