Turn on car air conditioner: Should I use inside or outside air?

Having used a car for a long time, many people still wonder whether they should use the air conditioner to take in fresh air or fresh air when turning on the air conditioner.

The air intake mode on the car is controlled by the air intake control system. This is an important part of the car's air conditioning system. When the air intake system is taking in air to carry out the cooling process to provide cool air to the car cabin. The air taken in will be blown through the car's condenser or evaporator to increase/decrease the temperature.

Most cars today have a mode of taking in outside air or inside air through the air conditioning system. The mode switch button has a rotating arrow inside the car image. The difference between the two air intake modes is the air source. Inside air intake is the system that sucks in the air available in the car to carry out the heating or cooling process. Outside air intake is taking in air from outside the car and bringing it into the air conditioning system.

When the outside air intake mode is turned on, the air conditioning system will directly suck in outside air through the air filter, then through the cooling coil before blowing into the cabin. With the outside air intake mode, the air is often fresher, if it passes through areas with clean air and less dust. Or for those who are afraid of the smell of car air conditioning, if the air conditioning is not turned on, they should turn on the outside air intake mode.

But the biggest disadvantage of the outside air intake mode is dust and strange odors if the car passes through an area with odors or dirt.

With the internal air intake mode, the air conditioning system will use the circulating air in the cabin through the air filter and bring it to the evaporator to cool or heat the air. The advantage of internal air intake is that the cooling or heating process is fast and fuel-efficient. For example, if the temperature in the car is 25 degrees Celsius, when you want to cool it down to 20 degrees, it will be faster than taking in outside air at a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. So when traveling on short distances, you should use internal air intake mode for the highest cooling efficiency.

For cars without automatic air conditioning, taking in air for a long time will cause lack of oxygen, suffocation, drowsiness or lethargy, with no air circulation.

Vehicles equipped with automatic air conditioning systems, during use, if the car lacks oxygen, the sensors will automatically take in outside air to supplement the lack of oxygen. Therefore, there are cases where, even though the inside air intake mode is selected, when passing through areas with strange odors, the people in the car will still be affected.

The function of taking in air inside or outside is important for cars.

The function of taking in air inside or outside is important for cars. Taking in air inside helps the car save fuel. However, when stopping in one place, you should limit the use of outside air to avoid the case of CO gas accumulating in the car causing drowsiness leading to accidents. If CO gas is inhaled into the blood, there will be a lack of oxygen, causing the person inhaling it to suddenly and irresistibly fall asleep. When the weather is humid or a bit cold, if you use inside air, the glass will easily become foggy, obstructing vision./.
