How many ODO is a car considered too old?
ODO (Odometer) is a meter that measures the distance traveled by a car.
For car models in the Vietnamese market, the ODO index is often calculated in km and it partly reflects the quality of the car as well as helps drivers know the time frames for maintenance.
What ODO number is too old for a car?
According toIseeCars, the average distance of a car used by a regular commuter is around 9,000 - 24,000 km/year and will be much higher for service cars.
Along with that, the car also needs a lot of repair and maintenance when it has been used for 8 - 10 years. The ODO number corresponding to that number of years is considered a very old car.
Therefore, users are advised to prioritize choosing cars under 10 years old when buying used cars.

Currently, the issue of ODO rewinding is very difficult to control or verify. Because in Vietnam, to verify the number of kilometers on the clock of a certain car can only rely on the number displayed on the screen and compare with the maintenance history of the manufacturer.
However, not all car owners take their cars to the dealer for maintenance according to the manufacturer's instructions.
But users can somewhat determine the actual condition of a car, the quality of the car, the actual distance the car has traveled based on the ODO number over the number of years of use.
For example, a car that has been running for 10 years and has an ODO of 10,000 km, on average the car travels 1,000 km per year, this would be a somewhat unreasonable number because it is too little for a car, unless they have been "covered" in a warehouse for many years.
The ODO index can be considered a reference number when choosing to buy a used car. However, users should not put too much emphasis on these numbers but should consider the car they intend to buy as a whole.
