Previously, from the beginning of May 2018, people in Nghi Van and Nghi Kieu communes, Nghi Loc district and neighboring localities in Yen Thanh and Do Luong districts were very confused by the situation of motorbikes of people going to work in the fields being stolen by thieves.
At the same time, many families also had their doors broken into and valuables stolen such as TVs, phones, money, gold, etc.
Through monitoring, grasping the local situation, and studying the subjects' modus operandi, Nghi Loc District Police established Project 718X to fight.
After using professional measures, the Investigation Committee suspected that Tran Thanh Lam in Hamlet 1A, Nghi Kieu Commune was the leader of a gang of motorbike thieves in the fields and in people's homes. Lam was a drug addict, had no stable job, often wandered around, had many unclear financial situations, and often had relationships with people with criminal records for property theft.
When sufficient evidence had been collected, on July 27, the agency issued an emergency arrest warrant for Tran Thanh Lam while he was wandering in the fields stealing motorbikes.
At the investigation agency, Lam confessed to committing 4 motorbike thefts in the fields and 3 thefts in people’s houses. Initially, the task force seized 2 motorbikes and 3 mobile phones.
The case is under further investigation.
