Mr. Chien caught the rare fish above at the mouth of the Voi Me River flowing into the Tien River (Cao Lanh District). This is an endangered fish species, listed in the IUCN Red Book as critically endangered.
Mr. Chien brought it to the market to sell to a buyer and the fish was butchered and sold for 160,000-200,000 VND/kg.
Freshwater fishermen on the Tien River said that there were quite a lot of giant catfish on this river before 1975, but now they are almost nowhere to be seen. This is the largest freshwater fish in the world, some of which can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh 200-300 kg./.
