Arrest of the gunman who shot a girl through the thigh

(Baonghean.vn) - After shooting the girl in the thigh, the 32-year-old suspect threw the gun into the Lam River and took a bus to Da Nang to hide. More than a month later, he returned to Vinh city and was "caught".

On February 12, Vinh City Police announced that they had prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Hoang Viet (born in 1985, residing in Nghi Hoa commune, Nghi Loc district) for 3 months for the crime of Illegal possession of military weapons, according to Article 230 of the Penal Code.

The investigation agency determined that on the night of December 8, 2016, Nguyen Hoang Viet was sitting at a night restaurant in Vinh city. At that time, a group of young people at the restaurant had a collision with the group of Ms. Pham Thi Hai Yen (born in 1990, residing in Vinh Tan ward, Vinh city). Because he knew both groups, Viet jumped in to stop them and try to reconcile.

Seeing Viet trying to stop her, Ms. Yen "disapproved" and yelled at Viet, then led her group of friends to another night restaurant (near Vinh Stadium) in Block 2, Cua Nam Ward, Vinh City.

Feeling frustrated at being challenged, Viet went home to get the homemade gun he had bought earlier for 7 million VND from a person in Thanh Hoa, along with Duong Xuan Lap (born in 1992), Ho Tuan Anh (born in 1989) and Pham Hong Hoan (born in 1995), all residing in Nghi Kim commune, and hired a taxi to find Yen to...clear things up.

At around 2:30 a.m. on December 9, when the taxi arrived at the door of the night porridge shop, Viet got out of the car with a gun and rushed to where Ms. Yen was sitting, raised the gun and fired a shot through Ms. Yen's thigh, seriously injuring the victim. To demonstrate his power, he fired another shot into the air, causing panic among the people present and the residential area.

Vinh City Police immediately arrived at the scene to investigate, search for clues, and identify and arrest the perpetrators. More than 10 days later, Lap, Anh, and Hoan turned themselves in and were arrested. Song Viet was still on the run.

Through professional measures, the investigation agency verified that immediately after committing the crime, Viet fled to the Da Nang area. They organized many reconnaissance teams and simultaneously ambushed in Vinh city. In mid-January 2017, more than a month after committing the crime, Viet returned from Da Nang to Vinh city and was arrested by the police.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Hoang Viet admitted to the crime, he said that on the way to catch a car to escape, he threw the gun into Lam River in Xuan Hong Commune, Nghi Xuan District (Ha Tinh). The investigation agency organized many officers to dive and search, and as a result, they found the gun used in the crime.

Currently, Viet's three accomplices, Duong Xuan Lap, Ho Tuan Anh and Pham Hong Hoan, are on bail. Vinh City Police continue to consolidate the case file./.
