Arresting the perpetrator of a serious crime in Gia Lai

At 5:15 p.m. on August 23, Gia Lai Provincial Police arrested Vu Van Dan at a coffee plantation, about 3km from the crime scene.

Regarding the brutal murder that occurred on the afternoon of August 23 in Ia Bang commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ngoc Anh, Chief of Staff, spokesman of Gia Lai Provincial Police, said that the perpetrator's full name is Vu Van Dan, born in 1976, from Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong province, residing in Phu Vinh village, Ia Bang commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province.

From Dan's initial statement, the investigation agency determined: At around 9:00 a.m. on August 23, Dan and his wife, Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1983), went to the house of Mr. Le Trung Dung, a neighbor, to collect debt to get money for Dan's medical treatment. However, Mr. Dung delayed the payment.

When leaving, Dan and his wife had a conflict. After that, Dan took a machete and chased his wife to slash her, but Lan quickly ran away. Dan continued to bring the knife to Mr. Dung's house, but Mr. Dung was not home.

Then Dan hacked four people to death, including: Mr. Dang Dinh Van (born in 1958); Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lien (born in 1974); Ms. Le Thi Thom (born in 1982), Dan's sister-in-law, and Ms. Thom's daughter - Vu Thi Van (born in 2007).

The suspect also slashed and injured three other people, including: Mr. Vu Van Tuyen (1984), Dan's younger brother; Mr. Vu Cong Doanh (born 1983) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh (born 1963) - a neighbor.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ngoc Anh also said that, earlier, at around 3:45 p.m. on August 23, Chu Prong District Police received a report from the public about the case. Upon receiving the information, the Provincial Police Director directed elite units to go to the scene to block off and examine the scene; coordinate to take the victims to the emergency room; organize an autopsy and focus on investigating and arresting the suspect.

At 5:15 p.m. the same day, the provincial police arrested Vu Van Dan at a coffee plantation, about 3km from the crime scene. At the same time, they seized 2 machetes, which were evidence of the crime.

Regarding the subject Dan, there is information that the subject shows signs of mental illness. However, Gia Lai Provincial Police said that there is no basis to determine this.

Each location was a few hundred meters apart.

Because the crime scene was a farmland, the houses were far apart, the subject went from one location to another to commit the crime, the victims did not know to avoid it, or knew but it was too late to avoid it.

At 9:00 p.m. on August 23, the Investigation Agency transferred suspect Vu Van Dan to Gia Lai Provincial Police to continue taking statements.

The crime scene is still being strictly protected by the police to serve the investigation./.
