Maid caught livestreaming baby bath

A maid has just been arrested and sentenced for posting a clip of a child taking a shower.

Yuni Kristiani, a 28-year-old Indonesian maid working in Hong Kong, has been sentenced to three months in prison after live streaming three naked children in the shower. The video also includes a five-year-old boy bathing in the tub, who did not want to be filmed.

When the boy asked if the camera was on, Yuni lied and said, “No.” She then called two other boys, seven-year-old twins, to take a shower. The live stream lasted a total of 17 minutes.

After the video appeared on social media, a neighbor of the three children happened to see it on a page for domestic workers.

Private images of children should not be shared on social media.

Yuni was later arrested for publishing child pornography and the video was deleted. However, Yuni later proved that she had no bad motives; she also apologized to the host family and the children; the 2 years she worked there were well-reviewed by the host... With that, Yuni only received a light sentence.

In Hong Kong, the maximum sentence for such an offence is up to eight years in prison. Those convicted face a fine of around HK$2,000,000.

The above incident has shocked parents who have been trusting their children to their nannies. How can you prevent your children from being exploited online for bad purposes? When nannies post pictures of your children on social media, whether intentionally or unintentionally, they can put children at risk of abuse.

When your housekeeper uses social media, you need to closely monitor their activities.

To keep your child safe, remember the following:

- Make sure you can trust the people responsible for your child's care.

- Always monitor your domestic worker's social media and online communications.

- Let your child know that they can tell you whenever the nanny or housekeeper does something that makes them uncomfortable.

- Educate children about how the internet works. When a post is shared publicly, anyone around the world can see it.

- Give your child the right to say "No" when others want to take photos or videos of them.
