Flight attendant arrested for illegally transporting 80 gold bars

A flight attendant and a young man who was traveling with her hid 80 gold bars under their seats. They were arrested by authorities as they were preparing to fly from Noi Bai to South Korea.

On July 28, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch - Hanoi Customs Department, said that this unit, in coordination with Hanoi Police, had just discovered a case of illegal transportation of 80 taels of gold by air.

The two people involved were identified as Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh (34 years old, working as a flight attendant) and Nguyen Ngoc Sang (30 years old, both residing in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi).

According to the customs agency, the flight attendant and the young man accompanying her had completed the procedures to board Vietnam Airlines flight VN416 departing on the night of July 26 on the Vietnam - Korea route (Noi Bai - Incheon).

Sang sat in seat 12D, while Ngoc Anh had seat 12G. On the plane, they used magnets to attach 4 gold bars weighing more than 3 kg (equivalent to 80 taels of gold) under the seats.

Working with the authorities, the couple admitted that they had brought the gold to South Korea to sell for profit. When completing exit procedures, they did not declare it to customs.

The case has been handed over to Hanoi Police for investigation.
