Arrested Deputy Director of Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Department of Finance
Mr. Truong Tuan Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Finance, Mr. Phan Tien Dien - Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and a number of officials were arrested for their involvement in compensation for resettlement of hydropower plants.

On November 17, according to sources, the Investigation Police Agency of Son La Province Police has just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Mr. Truong Tuan Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Finance and Mr. Phan Tien Dien - Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (TN&MT) of the province.
Arrested with Mr. Dung and Mr. Dien were also a number of officials from other departments and officials of Muong La district.
The arrest was made by the investigation agency on November 16. Mr. Dung and Mr. Dien were read the arrest warrants by the police in the office, witnessed by the leaders of the Department of Finance and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of the province.
The police also carried out search warrants at the workplace and residence of Mr. Dung and Mr. Dien, collecting a number of documents to serve the investigation.
It is known that two deputy directors of this department and a number of officials were arrested for violations related to compensation and resettlement work for the Son La hydropower project.
The Son La Hydropower Plant was built in Muong La District. The violations occurred when Mr. Dung held the position of Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, and Mr. Dien held the position of Head of the District Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
Mr. Cam Ngoc Minh, Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee, said the incident had been reported to the Provincial People's Committee.
Before being arrested, both deputy directors of the department had been suspended from Party activities.
"When the investigation results clarify the violations, the provincial authorities will fully announce the information," said Mr. Minh.
