According to the case file, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (36 years old, residing in Hao Son Bac village, Hoa Xuan Nam commune, Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen) and Nguyen Thanh Dong had feelings for each other and lived together as husband and wife.

After that, Dong wanted to get back together with Ms. Phuong but she did not accept. Dong met his nephew, Nguyen Thanh Giau (15 years old, living in Tan Phuoc Bac, Van Phuoc commune) to discuss a plan to take revenge on Ms. Phuong.

On the morning of August 6, 2016, Giau invited his friend Nguyen Huy Hoang (15 years old, living in Tan Phuoc Bac, Van Phuoc commune) to join him. Hoang agreed and both of them brought a plastic can of acid and rode a motorbike to Phu Yen to take action.

At 1 p.m. the same day, Giau and Hoang held a can of acid and sat near the construction site, waiting to ambush Ms. Phuong. When Ms. Phuong appeared, Giau drove in the opposite direction of Ms. Phuong's car, leaving Hoang sitting behind, holding a can of acid and throwing it straight at Ms. Phuong's face, causing severe burns to her face, chest, stomach, arms, etc., then both of them sped away.

Immediately afterwards, Ms. Phuong was taken to Phu Yen General Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim was transferred to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.

The examination results showed that Ms. Phuong suffered 70% injuries. It is known that Dong and Ms. Phuong have a 24-month-old child.
