Abnormality of woman killing gay lover in hotel
Brought to trial for killing her gay lover in a hotel, Lien pleaded not guilty but asked for the death penalty out of shame.
On April 14, Le Thi Lien (33 years old, from Khanh Hoa) was brought to trial by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court for the murder of her homosexual lover in a hotel in August 2013.
According to the indictment, in 2009, Lien used the fake name Sam to apply for a job at a barbershop in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City. During her time working there, Lien fell in love with Ms. Phuong - the shop's head barber.
Three years later, this relationship was discovered by Ms. Phuong's husband, and Ms. Phuong's friends and family who knew about it also tried to stop it. The barber shop owner then fired Lien. Investigation results determined that the couple had rented a hotel on Ngoc Han Cong Chua Street (District 11) 32 times to "talk".

On the evening of August 20, 2013, Lien called to book a hotel room. Ms. Phuong arrived first and waited at the reception desk until Lien arrived with her backpack. She gave the room manager some Hanoi plums and said, "I'm so sad, so bored with life," then went up to the room with Ms. Phuong.
The next afternoon, when Lien did not check out, the manager called the staff to check and found Ms. Phuong dead, naked on the bed, with multiple stab wounds. The only thing left at the scene was Lien's backpack. It was not until December 2014 that Lao Cai Provincial Police arrested Lien under a wanted notice.
During the investigation as well as in court today, Lien did not admit to the crime, did not admit her identity, background, or relationships with relatives in the family. Lien said her name was "Kimora - adopted daughter of a Korean". Regarding this, the investigation agency allowed Lien's relatives to meet and identify Kimora as their daughter Lien. The DNA test results also confirmed that Lien and them were related by blood.
The forensic psychiatric examination results determined that Lien suffered from "homosexual orientation"; at the time of the crime and now, he "had limited cognitive and behavioral control capacity." The agency believes that Lien's feigning illness was "intentional."
Responding to the jury, although Lien did not admit to killing Ms. Phuong, she "asked for the death penalty because she felt ashamed."
After deliberation, the panel of judges decided to return the case file and conduct further investigation to clarify some details in the case.
