Bayern bought Neuer from Schalke in 2011 for just around $24 million. Schalke was smart to include a number of clauses in the contract that would allow them to receive more money if Germany's number one goalkeeper performed well.

With Bayern's successful comeback against FC Porto and reaching the semi-finals of the 2014-2015 Champions League, one of the above clauses was activated. This was the fourth consecutive time the "gray tigers" reached the semi-finals and therefore Schalke received an additional 2.2 million dollars.

In nearly four years at Bayern, Neuer has won two Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, a Champions League and a European Super Cup. Schalke has benefited greatly from the add-ons. In total, the club has received 33 million from the sale of Neuer.

If Bayern win the Champions League this season, Schalke will receive another sum. The Gelsenkirchen club's board is very hopeful that this will happen because the additional clauses will expire at the end of the season.

Even if they have to pay more, Bayern have no shortage of reasons to be satisfied. Neuer's huge contributions have brought the club countless values over the past four seasons. Bayern is now one of the five highest-earning clubs in the world.
