Hai Phong Border Guard rescues Taiwanese ship on fire

On the afternoon of September 29, near Buoy No. 0 Hon Dau - Do Son (Hai Phong), the Shun Cheng ship with 6 Taiwanese-Chinese crew members carrying cargo suddenly caught fire. 1 crew member died. 5 panicked crew members were promptly rescued by the Hai Phong Border Guard.

At around 3:00 p.m. on September 29, the Hai Phong Border Guard Command suddenly received information from the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority and the Hai Phong Border Guard Port Border Gate that near Buoy No. 0 Hon Dau - Do Son - Hai Phong, the cargo ship Shun Cheng with 6 Taiwanese - Chinese crew members on board suddenly caught fire.

Upon receiving the information, the Hai Phong Border Guard Command immediately deployed forces and equipment for rescue. The Port Border Guard also dispatched a ship BP 02.04.02 with 6 officers and soldiers to the area where the ship was in distress.

When approaching the burning ship, the rescue team received information that there were 6 crew members on board. However, one crew member was burned to death by the fire. By professional measures and urgent efforts, by 4:00 p.m. the same day, the rescue team had rescued 5 crew members of the Shun Cheng ship, including: Hong Wen Hua, born in 1954, captain; Liu Chien Hsiung, born in 1964, chief engineer; Tinh Chin Ta, born in 1964, crew member; Huang Wen Chen, born in 1965, crew member; Lee Chin Tung, born in 1971, crew member. The body of crew member Hsueh Tien Teu, born in 1950, was still on board.

The Hai Phong Border Guard Command continued to send a working group led by Colonel Pham Quang Dao - Deputy Commander directly to the scene of the fire to direct the forces to continue firefighting and rescue. By nearly 20:00, the fire on the ship had been completely extinguished but was still very hot. The rescue force blocked off the scene to continue searching for the bodies of the victims.
